ICT in the ACT - Two Surveys

1. Survey within the school in which the preservice teacher is placed: ICT resources and internet.

2. Survey of school students: insight into what is happening in the homes and how/when/where students are using ICT.

Purpose of the Surveys
1. To gain some insight into ICT usage in a wide variety of schools within the ACT and surrounding region. This insight will help inform our ideas and discussions about integrating ICT within future teaching practice.
2. Gain an insight into ICT usage among a very wide range of students - this knowledge will help us in developing lessons plans and assignments. We’ll better understand when students are using computers, where they are using them and how they are using ICT.
3. It’s not planned as a formal research study - it is a snap-shot - not a scientific survey! But if we get enough data - it’ll be better than anything we’ve got at the moment!

Development of the Survey
Original plan was just to do it and ask Meg to publicize the survey. After thinking a little more deeply, it wasn’t hard to work out that the survey would benefit greatly from the input, advice and refinement from as many others who would care to contribute. So! Let’s open out the survey - wisdom of crowds (and all that) and crowdsource the survey!

However! We don’t want the survey to become bogged down in the minutiae! It shouldn’t be a lot of extra work - just decide on questions, get the data, process and share the data!

Crowdsourcing Guidelines

Points
1. It would be good to have the survey finalised well before Professional Experience starts (by the…?)
2. Don’t want the actual surveys to take too much time.
a. For the Schools Survey a maximum of around-thirty minutes of research (or one good conversation with the IT specialist at your school).
b. The Student Survey shouldn’t take any longer that around five minutes within class.
3. Focus on the questions and the clarity of questions. Especially for the Student Survey, as it will need to be understood by young people with a wide variety of ages and ability.
4. We’ll format the survey nicely and clearly at the end - initially, let’s just get the questions and wording right.
5. The following is offered, humbly, as a first draft - just to get the ball-rolling - hopefully there’ll be a lot of value that can be added by others who have experience and an interest!
6. Cheers!

Last Point (promise!)
Again! We don’t want the survey to become bogged down in the minutiae! It shouldn’t result in a lot of extra work - just decide on questions, get the data, process and share the data!
